WHAT ARE CAVITY WALL TIES?
Cavity wall ties are steel wire ties that are installed during the construction of twin cavity walls. They can mainly be found in houses built after 1900. They are specifically designed to hold the inner and outer leaves of a wall together.
COMMON ISSUES
The most common issue with cavity wall ties is rusting, which leads to eventual failure. This is caused by poor galvanization techniques applied the early part of the century as well as defective point of brickwork.
If these issues are not treated on time it could lead to the lifting of mortar lines and subsequent collapse of the outer leaf.
